When
the Dominican Sisters, now known as the Congregation of St. Mary, arrived from
Ireland in 1860, they were answering the call to teach the Catholic faith to
girls in St. John the Baptist Parish. Little did these valiant women know how
far reaching their ministry would be in this distant land!
During these many years, we have promoted the Dominican
mission to contemplate and proclaim the Word formally and informally in various
ways dependent on the needs of the times – in schools, retreat work, health
care settings, community organizing and deaf ministry, to name a few. What we
shall be has not yet been revealed to us but we move into a future filled with
hope that the Dominican mission will continue to thrive in the New Orleans area
and wherever we are called.
As you explore our web site, walk with us in faith and in
confidence in God’s abiding presence and loving care for each of us. Welcome!
